Growth of RFID in our Lives
RFID is a widely used technology in many sectors and industries of our society. It's uses can range from Bio-metric authentication in passports and national identification, to commuter transit fare cards, such as SmartTrip, or even in credit and debit cards. Although the ease and use of this technology had caught on both in the industrial, financial and consumer markets, some are worried about it's potential misuse by government or private institutions. There are many privacy based groups and organizations who are strongly against the use of this technology, as they consider it a violation of civil liberties. Also, a number of security experts and consultants oppose the use of RFID chips in already U.S. passports books and cards, even though they are already in use. They argue that these chips can be easily manipulated to forge biometric and personal information for misuse by dangerous individuals, making them less secure than the previously issued traditional passports. Either way, there is a strong view on the use and misuse of this technology across the board, and whether some like it or not, its use in our everyday lives is growing a a rapid pace.
